Cookie Time

What a fun weekend so far.

My boyfriend's sons came up this weekend and we launched a cookie-baking extravaganza because it's always more fun cooking with company than alone, and turned out batches of buckeyes, coconut chews, coconut nests, and cut-out butter cookies to add to the walnut and lekvar kiflis. Holiday music, laughter, flour everywhere (that was mostly me, as I'm a sloppy baker) and much love. My boyfriend made me a beautiful holiday psychedelic cookie dove, and I'm not eating that one.

Wonderful.

And then last night my friend Jane came by and helped me make kalac (sp?) which is Hungarian nut and poppyseed rolls using my late grandmother's recipe. She gave me a bunch of tips which proved invaluable, and now I can't wait to taste them. I'm torn between holding them till Christmas, and sacrificing one to my stomach right now. Argh. I think my stomach's going to win!

I've been thinking alot about all the wonderful people in my life, and the ones who are gone that I will forever miss. It's a rich and varied crowd -- everyone of them brought something grand and unique to the table -- and I'm thankful for the opportunity to know, like and love them.

So, thanks, you guys. xoxo
