Yesterday turned out to be one of those wonderful, golden days where every possible thing went right: moods were high, the weather was gorgeous, laughter came easy and opportunities knocked.
I was contacted by Judy of the Mehoopany Library recently, after she had read Such a Pretty Girl, and we met up and discussed my coming in and speaking about the book and writing. Yesterday we met up again as I'd bought some YA novels to donate to the library -- if you haven't yet read Funny How Things Change by Melissa Wyatt or Repossessed or Night Road or Beating Heart by A.M. Jenkins or anything by Catherine Atkins or Mary Pearson you might want to start because they're very talented YA authors -- and she told me their book club was going to read and discuss my book How It Ends, and invited me to be a part of that discussion.
I said yes, and so on December 10th, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. I'll be sitting in with the book club and discussing How It Ends. The library is hosting, admission is free and to get the most out of the event, it's a good idea to read How It Ends beforehand. I hope to see you there!
We went out to dinner and a movie last night, and had a lot of fun. We saw M. Night Shyamalan's Devil and it was pretty interesting. Parts were startling, parts kind of creepy and unsettling if you just went along with it. It was okay, although there were a couple of things that were irritating -- like having only one casual, schlumpy maintenance man for a 100(?) story, high energy, pristine highrise -- and I thought the main character's personality should have been way deeper and engaged us earlier so we could have cared more about him than we did. Let's just say that while I probably wouldn't try to see it again, it wasn't boring and the rising tension was a good thing.
Fun night. Halloween lights and decorations all over, a stop at Dunkin Donuts for the ever-wonderful Coolattas and good company.
Great day.
