Hello, Pig!

Yesterday we went to the county fair. I can't resist the animals. I guess if you grew up petting calves and lambs and goats and all, this is old news but to me, who grew up with only cats and dogs and parakeets, lizards and blue jays and chipmunks and fish, well, the ability to go commune with the big guys is irresistible.

The weather was wild, giving us a little bit of everything: intense sun, brisk wind, blustery, rolling clouds and even a brilliant, momentary rainbow sans rain. We were starving when we got there so we grabbed an assortment of food -- a blooming onion, pierogies, hot roast beef sandwich (my bf), a quesadilla and noodles and cabbage, and got busy.

From there, we went straight to the animals because I just couldn't wait. You wouldn't think petting cows would be so alluring but there's something about those sweet little Jerseys that just enchant me. Maybe it's their big, dark doe eyes or their milk chocolate coloring or their gentleness and patience. I don't know but I will say this: these Jersey girls are nice, classy, and far more real than what you may stumble across in the media. 'Nuff said on that.

And their noses are enchanting.

This little one's name is Firecracker, out of Star, and she was just lovely.

And then we moved on to the pigs, which was an absolute blast as I've never been nibbled on by a friendly pig and they were really, really cool.

I got to pet some of the sheep and oh, the lambs...

OMG, all I wanted to do was pick this baby up and take it home. Fat, fuzzy, warm and appallingly cute.
The goats were good-looking, too.

And then we went over to the bandstand (one of two, and the wrong one for the friends we were supposed to meet up with) and hung out waiting to see amRadio, only to find a different band setting up there, so we headed back through the fair to the other bandstand, found our friends (one of whom had some really interesting experience with forensic science, similar to The Body Farm) and hung out drinking milkshakes, talking, laughing and listening to the music.

It was a blast.
