Food, glorious food
The kittens' stockings are filled and hung on the mantel. So are ours, except for a few last minute stuffers.
I haven't baked yet, or even made up an ingredient list.
I have two more gifts to find, and mail out.
And now I'm really hungry, and wishing there was pizza delivery around here.
Good pizza.
Okay, NJ pizza.
I really miss a gigantic, extra sauce, extra cheese Vinnie's sicilian pie. Delivered hot and steaming into my eager hands.
Yes, pizza is good Christmas food, especially when you've been wrapping presents all day.
I miss zeppoles, too. These I'm going to make, maybe even right now.
And since I seem to be obsessed with food, one of my early childhood Christmas memories was of visiting my aunt, who had special Hungarian candies -- szaloncukor -- and others -- or so my memory tells me -- decorating her Christmas tree. The szaloncukor I found, bought a ton of assorted flavors and it is delightful.
It's the other candy, the one I can't find anywhere, that is killing me.
I was a kid and this mystical candy seemed like the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen. It was probably no more than a little pure pink block of granulated sugar and I might hate it now but I would really like the chance to find out, as in my mind it was the stuff of magic, wrapped in glittering, sheer silver paper hung amidst the lights and ornaments on the tree. I have no idea what it's called, or if it even exists but if anyone knows what it is or where I can find it, pleae feel free to let me know.
Now, it's time to eat.
